How do you change the serpentine belt on a 2003 pt cruiser?

my pt cruiser's belt is currently squeeking quite loudly (something new). I originally thought I might lubricate it, but opened the hood, and could not find a visible belt. I'm wondering if it is incompassed inside a casing, or if it is located under the engine? Is it best to replace it as soon as it starts to make noise, or just lubricate the belt? How do you change the serpentine belt on a 2003 pt cruiser?
you have to remove the right front wheel, and then the splash sheild behind it. then you will see the automatic tensioner. use a 15mm open end wrench and turn it clockwise to release tension and remove the belt. take note of how it comes off, but it couldn't be easier and it will only fit one way anyway. How do you change the serpentine belt on a 2003 pt cruiser?
Don't lubricate the belt. It squeaks now because it's getting worn out and is slipping. Lubricating it will make it slip more, and maybe slip enough that you won't have power steering or alternator function. The belt must be behind a plastic cover or shroud to keep it clean and dry. I recommend getting one of those $20 maintenance manuals for the PT at any decent chain auto parts stores. It'll tell ya what to do for changing the belt. It's not hard to do, it'll provide the visual instruction which is a great advantage over what anyone can tell you here. How do you change the serpentine belt on a 2003 pt cruiser?
the serpentine belt on a pt cruiser is on the passengers side of the engine compartment , the space is very limited , all you need to do is access the tensioner pully and then the belt will come off , it is not under any shroud or cover , just make sure that you draw yourself a small diagram as to which way the belt goes back on , or else go get a haynes manual .
