I have a Ford Lightning (supercharged F150) does anyone have a clue how to change the belts?

i.e. serpentine belt is behind the supercharger belt - how does the supercharger belt come off?I have a Ford Lightning (supercharged F150) does anyone have a clue how to change the belts?
that belt also has a tensioner, just the old bolt style BUT if you over tighten that one you'll chew up the bearing in that $$$$$ blower. Might wanna Let someone change that for ya, could be cheaper

2002 Hyundai Accent Timing & Serpentine Belt Replacement Costs?

I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent 2 door and need to get the timing belt and serpentine belts replaced. Does anyone know how much this might cost? I know timing belt changes start out at at least $320, but I'm curious to know the total cost plus the serpentine belt. Thanks.2002 Hyundai Accent Timing %26amp; Serpentine Belt Replacement Costs?
You shouldn't have both. The 02 Accent should have a Timing Belt. But if I remember correctly, the water pump should be replaced at the same time.

I had a 00 Elantra. The Estimates I received ranged from $415 to $700. So shop around. Especially these days, don't just take the 1st estimate you receive, people will compete for your business. And it's a common enough part that you should be able to get an honest estimate.2002 Hyundai Accent Timing %26amp; Serpentine Belt Replacement Costs?
Hmmm, timing and serpentine should be the same thing. Perhaps not, but on most cars it is. 3 to 4 hundred sounds about right, though. Question is, did it break while you were driving it? If you were, oh dear!2002 Hyundai Accent Timing %26amp; Serpentine Belt Replacement Costs?
i would say about 400 to 450.00 with tax serpentine belt on the same side as timingcover that has to come off anyways to access and finish the ttimingbelt job, now timing belt tensioner's and water pump may be extra if needed. i worked in a shop as a service adviser for 8 years.

  • Replacing timing belt and Serpentine belt on 1999 Mercury Villager?

I have a 1999 Mercury Villager and have changed oil religiously and have never had a single problem out of this van.It has 165k miles on it and the timing belt and serpentine belt have never been changed. My question is does this van have 2 seperate belts? Timing an serpentine ? and approx how much would each cost to have changed at a service station?(I gave it to my daughter and i need to do a few things to it to help her out) Thanks for help.Replacing timing belt and Serpentine belt on 1999 Mercury Villager?
It doesn't have a timing belt. It uses a chain which is not a scheduled replacement item.

It does use a serpentine belt for the alternator, AC and pumps. The belt costs around 40 to 50 bucks, and installation would be about the same.

Have you ever had plugs and wires replaced? what about filters? A coolant (antifreeze) flush and fill is probably a good idea as well.Replacing timing belt and Serpentine belt on 1999 Mercury Villager?
This is a NISSAN engine. EXCELLENT!! BUt, you must use ONLY approved coolant form the dealership, NOT the green stuff. Nissan makes it's OWN coolant. Use that!!! If you have been smart enough to use synthetic oil, you will have a keeper for YEARS to come!!

How do I change the thermal flasher for my turn signal in my '91 Chevy Lumina?

I refuse to take it in. People here gouge you like crazy, and I've heard changing the flasher is one of the easiest things you can do. I've changed my own serpentine belt and I regularly change the oil in my car, I think I can handle this. I bought the part, now I just need to know where the stupid thing is located so I can replace it.How do I change the thermal flasher for my turn signal in my %26039;91 Chevy Lumina?
Simple find the flasher assymbly. It is usually under the drivers side of the dash. Usually by the fuse panel. Typically it is a silver metal cylinder with 2 prongs or a yello plastic cylinder with two prongs. unplug it and match it with the replacement flasher then plug it in.

It works very simple when voltage is put to the flasher the thin inside metal thermal connects the circuit .when the thermal strip gets hot it bends breaking the conection. When it cools. likly quickly in .2 to .9 seconds in most flashers .The thermal metal strip bends back closing the loop and flashing the turn light again .

Flashers go out fairly often depending on how much they are used .Remember though that also the turn signal lamps can go burn out. So if you replace the flasher and there is still a problem then look at the flasher lights themselves front and rear for each side. If they are fine and there is still a problem then look at the signal switch itself on the steering column. How do I change the thermal flasher for my turn signal in my %26039;91 Chevy Lumina?
Go get yourself a repair manual for your car if you plan to do more work on your car by yourself. It's a real time saver. I got 1 for each of my 5 cars. The manual should be around 20 bucks. How do I change the thermal flasher for my turn signal in my %26039;91 Chevy Lumina?

How much should a serpentine belt replacement cost?

i have a 1999 lexus rx300 and it has a horrible squeaking sound, my auto friend said it was a rusty serpentine belt, i want to change it, is it worth it and how much should it cost? thanks for any answersHow much should a serpentine belt replacement cost?
I didn't know it was possible for a rubber belt to rust. Most serp belts if it's just one should run you under 100 bucks parts and labor. How much should a serpentine belt replacement cost?
The belt's cost $18 - 22. %26amp; EZ to replace. Ask around and you'll find a buddy to help ya out. =^ )How much should a serpentine belt replacement cost?
had belt replaced on my impala cost was $45 for the belt and $22 for labor to replace itHow much should a serpentine belt replacement cost?
first of all belts are made of rubber they don't rust. They crack and that is what makes it squeal. The shop where i work at for a 6 rib belt it costs 59.99 for the belt and labor. Other shops should be about the same. If you have a three rib it should cost a little less. some lexus still uses two to three belts. Make sure how many you have before you call any shop.

  • Serpentine and Timing belts of 1998 Toyota corolla LE?

Following questions are regarding 1998 Toyota corolla LE model.

    1. Service center with Toyota dealer recommends me to change the serpentine belt and he quotes $135 for it. When I contacted another service center, they said that there were three kind of serpentine belts (one for air conditioning and others for something else) and questioned which one needs to be replaced. But, my toyota dealer says there is only one serpentine belt. Does anyone know how many serpentine belts found in 1998 Toyota corolla LE model? If more than one kind, any idea which one the toyota dealer refers to?

    2. Toyota dealer recommends me to change Timing belt and quotes $350 for it. When I contacted other service center, they said there was no timing belt in 1998 Toyota corolla LE, but it had Timing chain and it didn't have to be replaced in the lifetime of the car. Who is correct?

Thanks.Serpentine and Timing belts of 1998 Toyota corolla LE?
    1998 Toyota Corolla 1.8L 4-Cylinder Fuel Injection:

This car has a timing chain and a single serpentine belt. As mentioned there are two belts to choose from, standard or with AC.

I'm wondering if your vehicle information is right. For example, the 1994 Corolla LE does have a timing belt and a single serpentine belt. Otherwise the dealership is pulling your leg.Serpentine and Timing belts of 1998 Toyota corolla LE?
i think the dealership would know better, they deal with them everyday. it does have a timing belt and 1 serp belt, on older models they had 3 belts, one for a/c one for power steering, and the other for alternator -water pumpSerpentine and Timing belts of 1998 Toyota corolla LE?
Are you ready to go to work? If your car has air conditioning it uses a special V belt. If it has air a multi-ribbed belt is used.

The price of each: V belt $32.66 Multi-ribbed or as others call it: Serpentine belt $37.95. Both are Gates products and are available at: autopartswarehouse.com.

Save yourself a lot of money and invest in a serpentine belt removal tool for $22.00 and do this ultra-simple job yourself. The tool relieves the spring pressure on the belt tensioner.

Look carefully at the path of the belt and you will easily find it. It's a completely seperate idler pully whish does nothing more than keep the belt tight. Don't pay Toyota your hard earned money. If you can't swing it an independant mechanic will do it for you for half the price. I'd do it for the price of the belt.

Forget worrying about a timing belt. Your car does not have one. You have a timing chain.Serpentine and Timing belts of 1998 Toyota corolla LE?
Well this all depends on the month your vehicle was built. They do switch over during the middle of a year run. Smartest thing for you to do is actually open your hood and look. Look at the front of the engine, most likely passenger side, and look at the belt(s). Also look behind the belt(s) and if the is a plastic timing cover (most likely black) then it has a timing belt. Be thankful if you have a timing chain. If you have a timing belt and over 60k on your car and have no idea when it was last changed...... Change it soon.

2000 chrysler concorde 2.7L serpentine belt?

I am changing a serpentine belt on a 2000 Chrysler Concorde. I have the AC belt on I cant find out how to get the front MAIN belt on does anyone know if that idler pulley moves? I cant see any slots where it would slide. and there is no spring loaded pulley. Anything is appreciated2000 chrysler concorde 2.7L serpentine belt?
If I remember correctly, the idler does move but you access the adjuster bolt from underneath the car? Loosen the center nut on the pulley, then turn the adjuster bolt to move the pulley. Put the belt on, then turn the adjuster bolt to tighten the tension, and tighten the center nut on the pulley to hold it in place. Yes, you do have a seperate belt for AC, so don't think you are looney. That car has a V-belt to the AC, and a Serp belt for everything else.2000 chrysler concorde 2.7L serpentine belt?
get a repair manual to show you.2000 chrysler concorde 2.7L serpentine belt?
Truthfully, it probably wont matter much because the timing chain will come off of the passenger side and destroy the motor, and the belt will now become the least of your problems. The 2.7 litre engine is...ummm... junk. Sell it now if it still runs.2000 chrysler concorde 2.7L serpentine belt?
ok a seroentine belts drives everything so you do not have a seprate ac belt if you look on the raid support there will be a picture on how the belt goes on aslo go to your local auto parts store like autozopne and they will show you and yes there is a spring loaded tensor2000 chrysler concorde 2.7L serpentine belt?
On all 3.2/3.5 and 2.7 the idler is adjustable-loosen the locknut, then turn the adjuster bolt until proper tension is achieved, then retighten the locknut.

the locknut is on the tensioner the adjuster bolt is right behind the tensioner on the left hand side. Good luck!

How hard is it to change disc brakes on 98 ford ranger?

I have recently changed the serpentine belt and found that pretty easy, should I attempt brakes, or should I leave it to a shop? How hard is it to change disc brakes on 98 ford ranger?
If you have slight to moderate skills, and some fairly basic tools, by all means, brakes are one of the easiest things in the world to do yourself. People are trained with all the Meineke and Brake Depot commercials that you need to have the pros do it for $100 per axle, not including rotors.

And of course, a mechanic will tell you to have the pros do it...job security.

    Don't fall for it.

You'll need (other than obvious tools) a bigger C-clamp, a socket set, maybe a crowbar, a screwdriver wouldn't hurt, to pry pads out if necessary. Maybe a hex set or allen wrench set, depending.

Each axle, assuming nothing is seized on too badly, should take the average backyard do-it-yourselfer about an hour or less. Wheel off, unbolt caliper from rotor. Might take socket, might take hex or torx wrench. Pads snap right out (and back in) caliper pretty easily. Use a C-clamp if you have one to push the caliper's piston back, so the new pads will fit around the rotor.

By the way, most rotors are manufactured so they CAN'T be turned, so you may need new ones. Usually $30-60 each. Sometimes less than $20. Reverse procedure to re-install.

I wouldn't attempt your drum brakes (if you have any). You'll probably wish you wouldn't have. How hard is it to change disc brakes on 98 ford ranger?
Depending on your mechanical skills, replacing brakes is fairly easy, but you really should leave it to the pro's as it takes specialized tools, and a complete inspection of your braking system is also done at this time. Safety is priority. How hard is it to change disc brakes on 98 ford ranger?
They are quite easy. Could be done in less than a half hour, with the right tools. But take your time, and you'll do great. How hard is it to change disc brakes on 98 ford ranger?
It's pretty easy. Just take the wheel off, and the brake caliper is held on with a few bolts. Once it is off (carefully handle it so you don't pull on the brake line too much - I usually attach it to the spring or something with a zip tie while I'm working on it.

Take the old pads out, and inspect them - compare them on both sides of the truck to see if one side is wearing more than the other (sometimes a sign of brake problems).

Also check your rotors to see if they are damaged. If the pads wore to the point where they were metal on metal, then you probably want to take them to a shop and have them turned (usually pretty cheap). If they don't have enough hardface left on them you will need to replace them (check junkyards - find out how thick the rotor is supposed to be, and measure to make sure it isn't worn out - it doesn't really matter what they look like since you can just have them turned).

If everything looks good, then take off the master cylinder cap, and push the brake cylinder on the caliper back in (go slowly otherwise brake fluid will spurt out of your master cylinder and make a mess - if you have topped off your fluid, you might need to get some of it out with a bulb syringe or something). You should be able to push the brake cylinder in by hand unless it has problems - some are harder to get on than others, I sometimes use a large c-clamp to get them started, but don't force them too much or you can damage them.

Once the cylinder is pushed back in, you should be able to install the new pads, and then reinstall the caliper. If it won't fit over the rotor, then push the brake cylinder back in more until it will fit. Make sure to put the pads in correctly - take a picture, or make a little sketch of how things are before you start taking it apart - it's amazing how much that helps (or get a manual - that never hurts either).

Make sure your master cylinder has the proper amount of fluid in it, and put the cap back on. Always test your brakes out somewhere safe a few times before putting it back on the road (it's amazing how many people forget the important step of making sure that their brakes work before jumping back into traffic).

They might squeak a little bit at first as the pads get seated (having the rotors turned gives them a smoother surface which will help brake pad wear, but a little bit of uneveness isn't that bad once they get seated. How hard is it to change disc brakes on 98 ford ranger?
Disc brakes are much easier than the serpentine belt. Only leave it to a shop if you have more money than time, hopefully you have a service manual for your car (Motors, Chilton's, etc), some cars can be done in 15 minutes per wheel, some may take longer if you have to take the caliper off. Even drum brakes aren't that hard, just lay everything out in the order you took it off and watch out for that lethal spring. How hard is it to change disc brakes on 98 ford ranger?
Main thing is you need one, somewhat specialized tool. A C-clamp that opens like 6 inches. That presses the caliper back in the housing.

Secondly, you should have bought a Toyota. Everything is easier on a Toyota.

Thank God Ford doesn't make airplanes. How hard is it to change disc brakes on 98 ford ranger?
EASY IF YOUR A MECHANIC !How hard is it to change disc brakes on 98 ford ranger?
It is a fairly simple process, but if you do something wrong it could be dangerous since your brakes may fail to work.

  • How much does it cost to change the spring tensioner on 96 plymouth voyager mini-van?

I have to change my serpentine belt every 8 months, the mechanic says the spring tensioner has to be changed what should this cost? How much does it cost to change the spring tensioner on 96 plymouth voyager mini-van?
the tensioner costs 69.50 and normally .6 hours labor to replace. It is quite common for them to freeze and not hold tension on the belt. if your belts are fraying, splitting, getting cut, or are thrown off you have a pulley alignment problem. the tensioner is most likely bad, but all other pullies and the alignment needs to be checked too. that belt should last at least 60,000 miles. How much does it cost to change the spring tensioner on 96 plymouth voyager mini-van?
first of all, what is the reason the belt needs to replaced every 8 months, does it break? wear out? fray off the sides/ and then why did he say the belt tensioner was defective? what did he say the reason was? unless the bearing is bad in it or the %26quot;tension%26quot; has gone out of the spring, which could actually be it is binding within the unit. either of those 2 reasons would be reasons to replace it. and taking care of that at a garage, could run up to another 150.00 over what ever it cost u to replace your belt. don't know for sure without more information. i hope this helps GOOD LUCKHow much does it cost to change the spring tensioner on 96 plymouth voyager mini-van?

3.3 and 3.8L have this exact problem when the tensioner is putting too much pressure on the belt. Just went through a rash of these last year!

3.0L- Could be the same, just haven't seen hat exact problem on one.

Tensioner is about 90-100 retail and .6 is crap for changing one. it is more like 1.2 hours as the nust on the back of the bolt requires having a second person under the vehicle or real skill doing the job. I go either way based on how the day is going.

You wont get very far since your alternator isnt keeping the battery charged. Id give it 10 minutes tops. Dont do it.

No power steering, no water pump, just wont end well.

Edit: Idk who gave me thumbs down because they're definitely mistaken. Probably the same person who thinks the alternator will keep the car from starting HahaCan i start my 1994 crown vic without the serpentine belt?
I have an 03 crown vic. It will be fine for a very short time. But if you leave it off too long, the battery will die (no alt) and it may overheat because the water pump runs off of the serpentine. But for a short time it would be ok.Can i start my 1994 crown vic without the serpentine belt?
of course you can but I wouldn't recommend driving it, no power steering no power brakes would take a while to over heat and battery will run can for a long time without alternatorCan i start my 1994 crown vic without the serpentine belt?

I need to change my serpentine belt. How do I change the pressure the tensioner puts on the belt so I can remove and replace it?How do I adjust the belt tensioner in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
put a wrench on the end of the tensioner or some tensioners have a 3/8's%26quot; breaker bar hole at the top of it, whichever you have you need to move the tensioner either left or right to loosen the belt to be able to take it off, there is quite a bit of tension on the tensioner so it will take a little muscle to move it.How do I adjust the belt tensioner in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
You don't it pivot's one way than you remove the belt idlers and tensions wear out if they never been changed replace both or you will be on the road doing it.Oh one more thing if your vehicle is missing the tag for how the belt is installed draw a diagram its easy to screw this up.

Does anyone know how to release the tension to change a 1991 mercury cougar serpentine belt?

the idler pulley requires either a 15mm wrench or it may have a square hole where a 3/8s or 1/2 in.ratchet will fit.Does anyone know how to release the tension to change a 1991 mercury cougar serpentine belt?
Look on the radiator cover there should be a sticker telling you inwhat direction to turn the tensioner. Most tensiones have a 3/8 square in them so you can use a 3/8 ratchet to pull on them to get the belt off.

Need Some car help (Brakes, rotor and serpentine belt) Please help?

Ok so i just got a 1998 Ford Escort from my grandma who passed away couple weeks back. So just to be safe i got it checked at Midas. They told me i had 2 get all my brakes pads, my front rotor and my serpentine belt changed. Im not really good with cars so please explain this to me. when they said get ur front rotor changed, what does that mean...both front tires...how many rotors does a car have..... And also does anyone know where i can get all these parts cheap. PLUS I DONT WAN TO SELL THIS CAR SO DONT SUGGEST THAT TO ME. thanksNeed Some car help (Brakes, rotor and serpentine belt) Please help?
You'll get a lot of opinions on cars, and mine from years of experience is not to go to the national chain store franchises like Midas, Goodyear, Firestone, and some others in large metropolitan areas. It's much better in my opinion to get to know some local independent shops you can find below that are recommended by your neighbors. The %26quot;gaurantees%26quot; you get at those chain stores and quickie lubes don't mean much. They end up charging you a lot anyways and less qualified mechanics are generally working on your car. The Ford dealer is a good place to get a diagnosis and quote for engine and transmission problems and let the independent shops do your brake, belts and hoses, exhaust, tires, and suspension work. When a car gets titled in your name at the motor vehicle department, it gets a safety check. If that safety check says your car is ok, then Midas is just trying to make money in my opinion rather than only fix what's needed to be fixed. Preventive maintenance like filter and fluid changes are specified in your owner's manual and are the most important thing for you to spend your money on.

http://www.iatn.net/shopfinder/Need Some car help (Brakes, rotor and serpentine belt) Please help?
The rotors are the brake rotors, and your car probably has four, one for each wheel/brake.

As the disc brake pads wear they also slowly wear away the rotors and will need to be replaced.

Serpentine belt is what drives your alternator, AC, power steering and stuff like that. That shouldn't cost you more than $10-$15 or so at an autoparts store. Don't know where you live, so it's hard to say where to get the parts cheapest, but most garages don't like you bringing in your own parts.

Did you mean Grand Am? At any rate, the engine mount does have to be removed to change the belt. My advice would be to get a service repair manual. It will describe hoe to do most repairs with step by step details and pictures.

The tensior pully can be relieved by putting a socket or wrench on the pully bolt and pulling back one way of they other until the belt comes loose.1998 Pontiac Trans Am GT 2.4L Twin Cam Engine Serpentine Belt Replacement?

haha i got that car i sold that peace of shtHow to change the belt of accesories on a honda civic 96?
I actually just did that on my 96 civic yesterday, its actually real easy, the power steering pump and alternator, all you have to do is loosen the mounting and adjusting bolt, swing it back and take the belt off, and for the AC belt you need to loosen the bolt on the pully (the one on the top, not the crank and not the compressor pulley, the remaining one) and pull the belt off. To get the AC belt all the way off you need to unbolt the mount that goes from the AC to the body and just slip the belt over that. Installation is reverse of removal

It you have a 1/2%26quot; ratch or barker bar, It will cost you nothing but for the parts. There is a spring tenrsor. It has a pull the belt ride on. it has a 1/2%26quot; hold for the tool. You press it away from the belt with one hand. With the other hand you remove the belt from the pulley. Let off the press on the pulley slow. Notice how the belt goes around each pulley. Put the new on in the same order. Put press on tensor pulley and put belt in place. You have replaced the belt. Otherwise it will cost a half hour to a hour in a shop. However they can tell if a pulley is going bad. The cost will be base on what shop or gas stations charge in your area.Changing a serpentine belt on a 03 Ford Focus?

How do I release the tensioner for the serpentine belt on a jeep?

2001 Jeep Wrangler with 4.0 liter engine. We have checked the New repair manual and it explains how to change the belt, but gives no info on releasing the tensioner. The tool that auto-zone says to use doesn't seem to have a way of connecting to do the trick....any ideas? How do I release the tensioner for the serpentine belt on a jeep?
4.0 liter probably doesnt have a belt tensioner. Most 4 liter dodge engines you have to loosen the idler pully and then the screw on top of the idler pully screws the idler down when you loosen it. I could be wrong but I know that most 4 liters i have done are this way no tensioner just an idler pully that slides down when you loosen it. If it does have a tensioner then you should be able to use a 1/4 in ratchet. Insert into the hole on the end of the tensioner and pull back. I wrote to someone before about how to change a belt on a jeep. This is what I said.

not that easy there is no tensioner on a 4.0 liter. First you need a 15mm socket. There is a idler pully on the drivers side of engine in front of teh power steering pump. Loosen the bolt in the center of the pully. Do not take all the way out just loosen a few turns. Then once you have the idler loose you need a 13mm socket and extension. Look down on the back side of the idler kind of on top. THere is a bolt that is about 4 inches long that goes down through the back of the pully. Loosen that bolt and the idler pully will slide down taking tensioin off the belt. Do this until you fel the belt is loose enough to remove. Once you have the belt off put new belt back on follow the diagram on the sticker under the hood. Follow the steps in reverse order to tighten. First tighten the bolt until the belt can be twisted about 1/4 to 1/2 side to side. once the belt is tight enough go ahead and tighten the nut on the idler pully and your done. Before you start it is helpfull to look at the bolt on the back and look where the threads are this helps you to get correct tension. also make sure you have the sticker for the diagram under the hood before you start. If you sont make sure you draw the belt or get one. It can be a pain to put back if you have no diagram. Well sorry so long but wanted to be specific. Good luck. How do I release the tensioner for the serpentine belt on a jeep?
    Like an OREO cookie;

    %26quot;Well to do it, you unscrew it!%26quot;

It is not an automatic (spring loaded) tensioner. There is a nut in the center of the idler pulley. Loosen that nut about 2 turns, then there is a lond bolt on the top side of the pulley bracket that you unscrew to allow the pulley to slide. Adjust the tension on the new belt by tightening this bolt, then tighten the center nut.

Serpentine belt and Timing belt of 1998 Toyota corolla LE?

Thanks.Serpentine belt and Timing belt of 1998 Toyota corolla LE?
A 98 Corolla has a timing chain and a serpentine belt. The belt usually lasts around 60,000 miles or so, although I have had to change them at about 45K at times. Basically, just look at the grooved side of the belt where it goes around one of theh pulleys. If it has cracks running across any of the ribs in the belt, it is time to change it. If not, unless it is very noisy it will go for a while longer. The timing chain is what I call the %26quot;new generation%26quot; of chains (which may date me!). Those chains last roughly forever. It will begin to make a rattling noise especially on start up before it needs to be relaced. It is true that if they break it will cause havok in your engine, but I have seen only one of that style break in 15 years, and they use that style now in Previas, Tacomas, Celicas, Corollas, Tundras, 4Runners, Camrys, and anything else with a chain in it, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Hope this helps. God Bless!Serpentine belt and Timing belt of 1998 Toyota corolla LE?

It is time to change it, it is a 1998 car so it is more then 10 years old. More then likely, it has about 200,000 miles on it. I seem to remember it is every 100,000 miles it needs to be replaced. As for the timing belt/chain, if it snaps it can SERIOUSLY screw up ur engine, so it might be time to change it too.Serpentine belt and Timing belt of 1998 Toyota corolla LE?
Your Toyota stealership is just that.. a %26quot;stealership!!%26quot; 1998 Corollas don't have a timing belt- they have a maintenance-free timing chain. In fact, all Corollas after 1997 have the timing CHAIN. I should know. I used to own a 1999 LE- which is the same car. Go elsewhere for service.

1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Serpentine Belt?

    1. Step by step on how to change a serpentine belt on my car?

    or

    2. Approx how much would it cost to get it change at my local auto shop?1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Serpentine Belt?
Here is the guide I use.

First draw a diagram of the pulley locations and the routing of the belt.

Take off the old belt - DO NOT CUT IT OFF - if you've purchased the wrong new belt your going to need the old one; aren't you?

There is a belt tensioner pulley in there. It can be retracted using a 3/8 or 1/2'' ratchet handle. Just the handle - no socket required - there should be a square hole on the pulley bracket that the handle will fit into. This bracket has a fairly strong spring in it so be carefull.

General rule of thumb. Grooved pulleys receive the grooved side of the belt and smooth pulleys have the smooth side of the belt run over them. Don't screw this up or you will have accessories running backwards and that not a good thing.1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Serpentine Belt?

I need to change the serpentine belt on olds 88, with 8500 series engine, 1998How release tension on serpentine belt 1998 olds 88?
the belt tensioner is bolted to the engine and there should be a square hole in it at the top to use a 3/8%26quot; drive ratchet into the square hole to pry it over so it loosens the tension on the belt, you might have to get a 2 or 3' piece of pipe that will go over the ratchet handle for extra leverage. How release tension on serpentine belt 1998 olds 88?
there should be a belt tensioner mounted in line with the other pullys on the engine. it might only be about 3 inches in diameter and probably black. your best bet would be to call your local auto parts store and ask them. all it should take is to put a ratchet on the end bolt with the right sized socket and turn it the opposite way that it is putting tension on the belt.

if the belt which was replaced is the correct size %26amp; not too large(loose), then there is a very high probability that the tensioner assembly is bad. there is a spring within the assembly which many times, if going bad, will not bounce back to the proper tension adjustment. this almost always occurs after moving the tensioner in order to change a belt.

even though i hear its pretty easy this belt that broke on my isuzu trooper 98 its goes a little inside the engine somewhere or some like that it looks like i have to take something off to do it, am i just better off taking it to a mechanic, is fo how much will it cost me to just change it if i already have the belt?I tried to change the serpentine belt on my car, but...?
If the belt only charges your battery and ac, it is safe to drive it to the service station. You still run the risk of your battery dying though.

If that broken belt drives your waterpump, STOP! You will overheat and damage your engine. Have it towed or fixed there.

The belt likely drives your power steering, so consider this.I tried to change the serpentine belt on my car, but...?
It ususally not easy and it also not cheap to get done. on my daughters 89 Chrysler lebaron it was $300 plus the beltI tried to change the serpentine belt on my car, but...?
I believe the Trooper is a rear wheel drive car. If so the belt would be a piece of cake to change. If its front wheel drive with the engine in sideways it could be tricky-i generally just pass that off to my friend to fix when one of my front wheel drive cars snaps a fan belt.

Regardless in either case a mechanic/garage is gonna soak you for hundreds. They are rip off artists.

I have read this question and your other question related to this and i would like to let you know that all of these people telling you that you are gonna destroy your car by trying to drive it for 2 miles without the belt have no clue what they are talking about. If the car is cold when you first start it there is no way it could overheat within 2 miles. No way at all. I drove mine for around 7 miles the other day without the belt-did not even start to get hot. Just make it a straight trip-dont give the car time to warm up or anything. Just jump in it, start it and go. If that car would overheat and damage the engine within 2 miles i would buy you a new engine-cause i know it just cant happen. 20 miles might be pushing it--2 miles no way would it hurt anything.

On the other hand your serpentine belt turns your alternator which keeps your battery charged. Without it your battery could go dead quite quick leaving you stranded. If your battery is good and strong it will be ok for 2 miles-regardless you might want to have someone follow you just in case.I tried to change the serpentine belt on my car, but...?
its easy just get a wrench usually a 5/8 and the diagram is

How do you change the serpentine belt on a 1997 Jeep Wrangler 6 cyl. with AC?

I can figure out how to route the serpentine belt but am wondering how difficult it is and how to release the tensioner and how difficult it is to reapply that tension? Does it have to be a very specific amount of tension and how do I know when I am at that amount? I'm pretty confident about getting the belt off but don't want to be stuck with a car that I cannot put the belt back on, or properly at least. Again this is a 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, 4.0 liter, Inline 6 cylinder, with air conditioning. Thanks for your help! How do you change the serpentine belt on a 1997 Jeep Wrangler 6 cyl. with AC?
I can't remember if this has a spring loaded tensioner or a screw type tensioner. If you look at it you can easily tell. A spring loaded tensioner will have a pulley mounted on an arm that swings forward to release the belt and the screw type will have a bolt front to back that you must loosen to release the pulley inside a channel up and down and another screw that you will turn to move the pulley down to release or up to add tension to the belt. With the spring tensioner, you will need to check that the tensioner is holding the belt firmly on and the pulley turns freely. To check the tension, try twisting the belt around so the ribs face outward. You should be able to turn it some (45-90 deg) but not all the way upside down (180+ deg). If you can, the tensioner must be replaced. If it is the screw type tensioner, you need to add tension until you have the belt so you can turn it no more than 90 deg, then tighten the center screw. In either case if the tensioner pulley will not turn freely when you have the belt off you will have to replace the tensioner.

I want to change the serpentine belt on my 2002 firebird. How do I go about doing this once I find the tensioner?2002 firebird serpentine belt replacement?
You should be able to release some tension off the tension pulley and then you can work the belt off of each subsequent pulley. If you don't have a diagram of the pulley system I would suggest taking a picture or several so that you can make sure that it goes back on in the proper order.

How do I change the belts on a 2002 Toyota Sienna V6?

I was expecting to find a single serpentine belt with an automatic tensioner pulley. I have changed serpentine belts on many models with no problem. But this Sienna has two belts, not one. One belt drives the power steering pump. The second belt drives the alternator and A/C. I don't see a tensioner pulley on either belt. Do these belts work like old-fashioned V-belts belts where you tension them by loosening something (like the alternator) and then using a pry bar to tighten the belt? I can barely see the power steering pump so it looks pretty tight, I welcome advice from anybody who knows this model. Thanks. How do I change the belts on a 2002 Toyota Sienna V6?
loosen the 14mm bolt on top of alternator. loosen 12mm bolt below alternator sitting sideways. adjust belt tension with 10mm bolt running through previous 12mm.

loosen 12mm bolt on top of power steering pump. underneath vehicle loosen a 12mm bolt below p/s pump pull on belt to relieve tension, and pry carefully to increase tension.

a bit of advice when reinstalling belts, the belt tension has to be just so, too tight and you will wreck the bearings in both pump and alt., too loose and the belts will squeal they have to be just right.

dealer recommendations are 50,000 for both belts serpentine you can get away with timing belt you always want to do before it breaks (around fifty thousand miles or so ) because if it brakes you are looking at bent valves and head problems which would be alot more expensive than changing the belt as a preventative maintenance itemHow often do i need to change the timing belt and serpentine belt on a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica?
The serpentine belt runs power steering air conditioner compressor water pump and probably some thing els I'm forgeting. It should be inspected every time you change the oil. If it looks cracked it should be replaced. With 43000 miles I would replace the belt. The timing belt is another story. It should last a very long time. At least 100,000 miles. If you are not a mechanic I don't recomend doing this your self. But most manufactuers do not recomend a timing belt change untill after 100,000 miles.

How to change a serpentine belt in a 1999 chevey malibu?

Look at the diagram under the hood for the correct routing of the belt. The way to remove the old one and install the new one is to relieve the pressure of the idler pulley. There will be a hex head in the center. More than likely a 14mm. or a square where a 3/8 ratchet can be inserted. Push down on the wrench or ratchet and this will relieve the tension and allow you to slip the belt off and the new one on.How to change a serpentine belt in a 1999 chevey malibu?

You had better take a good look at it and see what is in the way. I have changed a belt on a Suzuki Aerio - they are not the same necessarily - but you may have to remove an engine mount support to get to it. in that event you need a floor jack to raise the engine off the mount. then you have to rotate the tensioner back and hold it so you can get the old belt off. (assuming it is spring loaded). If you don't have a floor jack and a pretty complete set of tools - better not attempt it. Getting the motor mount re-attached and lined up is pretty tricky.

How to change a serpentine belt on a 2000 VW bettle?

Bring it to the dealer or a mechanic. That's a job you really don't want to screw up.How to change a serpentine belt on a 2000 VW bettle?
Before you begin, take some pictures or make a drawing of how the belt is attached. This will save you a lot of time when putting the new belt on.

First disconnect the air intake boot and vacuum line off the intake. Then take an adjustable wrench (crescent) and on the tensioner there is a tab sticking straight up place wrench on this and pull back to release belt tension but don't allow it to slipoff the tab. Remove belt (thats the easy part) I found if you have a helping hand it is much easier for the install. Put the belt around all the upper pullys first. Have your helper pull the tensioner back and slip the belt on the bottom pully last i mean the power steering pully the one on the bottom closest to the front of the car. reinstall hoses. Should I go ahead and change the Serpentine belts on my car? How much?

I have a 2001 Mazda Protege. Whenever I start the car, there is a chirping noise. A mechanic told me it was 2 belts that need replacing: the Serpentine belts. He recommended that I change them soon. But it has been 3 months since then and I have yet to change the belts. My car has been fine. It still makes the chirp noise when I start my car but runs ok. I'm leaving on a trip soon, traveling about 500 miles (round trip). Will my car make it or should I change the belt before hand. The mechanic wanted to charge me $110 for the replacement of the Serpentine belts (including installation), does that sound about right?

Thanks, guys!Should I go ahead and change the Serpentine belts on my car? How much?
Yes, I recommend you get them changed before you go! If a belt breaks it can leave you stranded and cause other damage to sensors or wiring when it breaks! The price of two belts is about $30 - $40, so the cost is not bad! Also get all your fluids checked, tire pressure checked, and spark plugs and air and oil filter changed if due!(check your owners manual for service intervals! Also get the water hoses checked and changed if needed, these can also leave you stranded!

Have a safe trip!Should I go ahead and change the Serpentine belts on my car? How much?
that price is fine.have them changed before you leave.with the heat we are having now better off to change them instead of ruining your trip with a broken belt on the side of the road.have a good trip.Should I go ahead and change the Serpentine belts on my car? How much?
well you should deff. change them before the trip they could break and leave you beside the road.. that sounds like a reasonable price.. becuase they belts would be about 20 each and then sometimes they are in a tricky place but then again it still sounds a little high too i would check around and see if i could find a better price.. but as for replacement, yes you should deff. do it.. the reason he said they need to be replaced is becuase i would say they have cracks in them which generally is due to execcive wear.. and yes this will cause chirping.. good luck,.Should I go ahead and change the Serpentine belts on my car? How much?
Well seeing how the belts are around $15 dollars a piece if you can find someone to do it for you that you trust it will save you a lot in labor cost. However if there are no threads showing cracking on the underside or fraying of the belt you may be able to get a can of belt dressing and spray it with that found at any local auto parts store. That should stop the noise Without looking at it myself I can not determine if they need changed but given the cars age it wouldn't hurt. Hope this helpsShould I go ahead and change the Serpentine belts on my car? How much?
Get a can of WD40 or belt dressing %26amp; spray some lube on the belts %26amp; pulleys with the engine running in idle. Be careful %26amp; use the long nozzle, just tap the revs a little to work the lube in... now this is due to dry belts %26amp; bearings, once they're done... end of problem!Should I go ahead and change the Serpentine belts on my car? How much?
I think it would be sensible to get the belts changed before you set off

on your journey. What would you do if one or both of them broke after

say 200 miles into your journey.Stranded comes to mind.$110 for

peace of mind and knowing you will get there and back is priceless.

How do i change the serpentine belt?

i need step by step instructions on how to change the serpentine belt on a 91 honda accord. i have no idea of how to do it and the mechanic is tryin to charge me 50 dollars which i dont have please helpHow do i change the serpentine belt?
I don't know why everyone (well, except JonnyBoy) thinks your '91 Accord has a Serpentine belt with an automatic tensioner, because it doesn't.

    Alternator

    1. Loosen the alternator mounting nut/bolt and through-bolts.

    2. Turn the adjusting nut until the proper belt tension is reached. Recheck the tension and readjust as required.

    3. Tighten the mounting nut/bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (26 Nm) and the through-bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).

    4. Start the engine and allow it to run for several minutes. Recheck the belt tension and readjust as required.

    Power Steering

    1. Loosen the pump through-bolt and nut.

    2. Turn the adjusting bolt until the desired tension is reached.

    3. Tighten the through-bolt to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm) and the nut to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).

    4. Start the engine and turn the wheel lock-to-lock several times. Recheck the belt tension and readjust as required.

btw, if that $50 price includes good quality belts, I'd recommend you have them do it, because the 2 belts alone run over $40 with tax.How do i change the serpentine belt?
Even if the $50 doesn't include the belts, it is CHEAP for a mechanic.

How do i change the serpentine belt?
$50 bucks shouldn't be too much to spare. If you've never changed a timing belt I wouldn't try it yourself. If you line a tooth or two up wrong, it could result in incorrect valve timing causing your valves to ram into your pistons! So by doing it yourself, your risking ruining your engine for good. How do i change the serpentine belt?
Its easy find the tensioner ? uh... i'm not sure were its located but there is usually a nut looking deal that you need a ratchet to turn this holds the belt on the pullys with tension hens the word tensioner pully if you look at the pully's you will notice a wheel that is just there and looks like it has no purpose well anyway you push on it real hard and it should move not loosen then you take your old one off make sure to look very carefully to see how the belt loops around all the pullys there is always a guide under the hood on a sticker that shows you the route of the belt so anyway put the new one in place and you will have to put force on the tensioner pully again to give you room to finish the last of the routing release tension and there you go your all done it's really not that hard but much easier if you have seen it done before if you cant find the location of the tensioner go to an auto parts store and ask if they can show you were it is they are usually pretty helpfull with info. like thatHow do i change the serpentine belt?
I have no idea where the first person pulled his answer from but it isn't even close! You asked how to change a serpentine belt which has nothing to do with a timing belt which turns the camshaft.

The problem is without a serpentine belt and the tools to do the work $50.00 isn't a bad deal, particularly when the belt costs between $30.- $35.00.How do i change the serpentine belt?
50 bucks isn't bad. First off you have to release tension on the system (i.e. at the tensioner pulley bracket)...it's different on some cars. Some actually can be released pushing on the bracket flare with simple open end wrench (mainly modern gm), others require (or makes it easier to do) a serpentine %26quot;bar%26quot; which costs around 30 bucks. You release the tension with one hand and pull the belt off the tensioner with the other hand. Then you thread the new serpentine over all the pulleys in the factory orientation (again...different on different cars) and use the serpentine bar again to release the tension and pull the belt over the tensioner. Visually check to make sure it's on the grooves properly and voila...you're done.

The other way is to remove the alternator or possibly the condenser to release the tension which is stupid and takes longer but works. Then route the belt, then put the belt on the removed part's pulley and bolt it in.

I take no responsibility for anything you do and mess up. I suggest either sucking it up and go to the shop and pay for it...or if the belt isn't shredded/broken...run with it until it breaks (check it every time you drive it). When it breaks your water pump won't work neither will your alternator and condenser.

[edit: if no automatic tensioner...you shouldn't touch it...]

installation tool available at your local parts store or sears...How do you change a serpentine belt on a %26039;01 Jetta 1.8t?
I have a '02 Jetta with the 2.0 liter, if its laid out anything like mine you will need a 15mm open-end wrench, and a really stiff piece of wire (for this I used a small allen key). On top of the belt tensioner is a square protrusion, slip the open-end wrench on it to swing the tensioner, and release the tension of the belt. There is a small hole in the tensioner arm, and one in the tensioner housing, turn the tensioner with the wrench until these two holes line up, then insert the wire through the holes to lock the tensioner in place. Remove the belt, be sure to note how the belt is routed, draw a diagram if necessary. Put the new belt on, swing the tensioner a little bit to remove the wire, then slowly let the tensioner apply tension to the belt. After the belt is installed, give the engine a few quick cranks to make certain the belt is seated, when everything looks good, start the engine.

you can get a Haynes or Chilton book at you local parts store. it will help you with a lot of maintenance on the car

How to change the serpentine belt on a 1997 buick skylark?

there will be one pulley that will loosen up and allow you slack to take off the old one and in stall the new one. usually it is the alternator. there should be a picture under the hood to show you how to route the new belt. then tighten the belt by tighentening the slack on the alternator ( if it is the pivot pulley) and using a pry bar or a bar of some sort tighten the belt up and while holding pressure tighten up the bolts on the alternator. don't over tighten the belt or you ll be replacing a pulley in a few weeks. How to change the serpentine belt on a 1997 buick skylark?
First you need to buy a serpentine tension release tool. A standard wrench will not work well. Once you have the tension released from the belt it will slip off of the pulleys. There is a diagram of the belt installation under the hood. Follow these instructions to install the new belt. How to change the serpentine belt on a 1997 buick skylark?
there should be a belt tensioner, you should be able to pull up on the belt and see it move, most of the time there will be a 3/8 square that you can put a ratchet in, push the direction that will release the tension, when installing the new belt i find it easier to put the belt over the alternator last because you'll have to do it while pushing the tensioner

I know there is a tensioner but is it spring loaded? if not how do u get it to loosen so that u can? This one seems to be froze up or something and i dont want to brake the bolt if its just cause im not doing something wrightHow to change a serpentine belt on a 2000 ford f 150 6 cyl. 4.2?
most Fords have a bolt on the tensioner that when released goes %26quot;boing%26quot; and releases the belt. Find a bolt and undo it.. if that doesn't work tighten it up again and try another.

You dont %26quot;adjust%26quot; the tensioner when the belts back in as such.. The tensioner has a spring in it that does the job for you.

Once the belt is off, look at the tensioner. You'll see that you can wind up the spring then lock it temporarily with the bolt. Then when you fit the new belt, you just release the bolt again and it tensions itself up.

It is a lot harder to explain than to do. Take a photo of the belt before you take it off. Them suckers can be real confusing to thread back the correct way

Not being with this vehicle. look and make a drawing of how it came off.You will have to loosen something to loosen it enough to get it off.this might be the alternator, power steering pump. an idler or something that keeps the belt tight. You will see an elongated slot with a bolt through it and that will be it.You will need to loosen bolts at each end.

When you put the new belt on don't tighten it too tight, take your finger and push down on the belt, it should give about one half inch.

If it is only one belt I'm sure it makes alot of turns under and over your pulleys. If you think you will not remember the route of the belt it is a good idea to take a clear picture of the belt before you take it off. Also there is an adjusting pulley, find id and loosen that, it should be all you need to loosen. If your engine has more than one, It is going to be one for your power steering and one for everything else. In that case you need to loosen the power steering pump and the alternator. good luck. How do I change the belt on a 01 chevy silverado?

Those type of covers usually snap into position and could have a bolt or screw holding them on, plus if bolt or screw is used their positioned about centre so it holds the cover more firmly, to keep them from rattling and more balanced etc.

Where can i find a diagram/instructions on how to change the serpentine belt on a 2000 mazda mpv?

At many auto parts stores you can buy a Haynes do-it-yourself manual, with excellent wiring diagrams, step-by-step instructions, and basic explanations at the beginning of each chapter.

db667089 says: you can check http://www.alldatadiy.com. For about the same price as a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual, you can have online access (for a whole year) to model specific info for your particular vehicle. This is the same info that repair shops use. They have great wiring schematics/diagrams.

Also, for about $15 for a one-month subscription, you can get the factory manual, downloadable (careful! Mine was about 500 pages!) or viewable, at http://eAutoRepair.com.Where can i find a diagram/instructions on how to change the serpentine belt on a 2000 mazda mpv?
One of the Pulleys is a tension-er. Place a socket wrench on the bolt where it attaches to the engine and you will find that it is spring loaded. Just move it enough to slip the belt off of it. It is important that you route the new belt the correct way. There is usually a diagram right under the hood near the radiator. If not, draw one or take a few photos before you begin.

  • Is there any websites that show you how to change the serpentine belt on a 96 Saturn sl1?

The serpentine belt is actually quite simple. Jack up the front of your Saturn, place it on stands with some chocks. Remove the front passenger side wheel.

From the wheel well, place a socket on the tensioner and turn it clockwise. A quarter turn should be enough to loosen the belt enough to slip it right off.

If you have a friend, or a third hand, hold the tensioner down while you slip the new belt on the same path as your previous belt.

HOWEVER, is your belt making noise? Is that why you're changing the sepentine belt? If so, chances are your tensioner needs to be changed. Be sure NOT to buy the Dayco brand of aftermarket tensioner. You're asking for trouble. The safest for your single cam Saturn is to use an OEM tensioner.

I'll see if I can find some links/photos for you.

I have replaced the alternator and I have the belt in place but can seem to get the pullies loose enough to put the belt back on.How do you change a serpentine belt on a 1995 chevy cavalier w/air?
There should be a a %26quot;spring loaded%26quot; tension pulley on it somewhere. Follow the path of the belt until you find it. Once you locate it you should be able to put a socket or wrench on the pulley and pull it (not turn it) as you do you should see the tension on the belt release. Once it is loose enough slip the old belt off. The precess i the same to put it on except you need to have the new belt correctly around all the other pulleys and when you pull on the tension pulley it helps to have someone slip the belt on for you.

Note: It will take a lot more pull to get the new belt on then it did to get the old one off. The old bet has stretched so you don't have to pull as far.

Hope that helps...How do you change a serpentine belt on a 1995 chevy cavalier w/air?
There should be a tensioner somewhere.

You should be able to wedge a crowbar or ratchet in it and pull up on it to releive the tension.

ThanksHow do I change the Serpentine belt on a 1987 Chevy S-10 4x4 Pick up 2.8 V6?
Many vehicles with serpentine belt tensioners do have a hole to insert a breaker bar directly, but on yours you need to use a box end wrench or socket and breaker bar (preferred over a ratchet if at all possible). Sorry, I don't know offhand which size it would be, but usually around 3/4 inch. Might be metric.

Place a large box wrench or 1/2 in. breaker bar and socket over the tensioner pulley axis bolt (the bolt in the center of the pulley portion, not the mounting portion) and rotate the tensioner counterclockwise loosen the belt.

While holding the tensioner in this position, remove the accessory drive belt and gently release the tensioner. (usually, it's easiest to slip the belt off the alternator first when removing, and slip it on the alternator last, after routing around the other pulleys when putting the new one on)

Never allow the tension to snap back into position with or without the belt installed. Allowing the sudden release of tension could result in damage to the tensioner assembly.

    To install:

Begin to position the belt over the pulleys making sure the routing is correct.

Use the box wrench or breaker bar to pivot and hold the tensioner, then slip the belt fully into position.

Slowly ease the tensioner into contact with the belt.

No belt tensioning is necessary as the automatic tensioner is spring loaded.

This web page has more info. Note that engines of different sizes and with different accessories have different belt routing. If you do not have a diagram under the hood (like on top of the radiator usually), then you should draw one by hand before you start.

This one also mentions how the alternator can apparently be adjusted on yours. After the belt is off, try to put it back to where it was and re-fasten, then check the marks on the tensioner as described when you're done putting the new belt on, to be sure the mark on the tensioner arm is between the 2 marks on the tensioner base.

This is usually used to tell if a belt is stretched, but in your case, can help to make sure the alternator is back where it should be. Also, check the brackets for signs of where the bolts were before you loosened it.How do I change the Serpentine belt on a 1987 Chevy S-10 4x4 Pick up 2.8 V6?
There is an automatic belt tensioner on the motor that accepts a 3/8 drive ratchet and when you turn it you will be able to get the belt off. If you look at the belt routing diagram under the hood the tensioner will be noted with a small arrow telling you which way to turn it. Hope I have been helpful.

Definitely change the water pump along with the timing belt. There is very little extra labor, and you don't want it to start leaking (requiring having to do the whole job again) before the next timing belt change, or, even worse, to seize and ruin the belt and your engine. Looks like $600-$900 will cover it all - see the first source.

There is a belt tensioner that is on the same bracket as the power steering pump and I believe it is a 5/8%26quot; socket that you will need. (if you dont have the automatic adjuster)

You said you can't get the tentioner back on.I assume you mean you can' t get the belt to go under the tentioner as it should not have been taken off the motor. If you have used a wrench to pull as much adjustment as you can on the tentioner, and still can't get the belt to slide under it then they sold you the wrong belt.Did you tell them if it had a/c or not?Has someone removed the a.i.r. pump?Find the old belt and compare the length to your new one.If you find a difference,Take the old one with you when you go back to get a replacement.

It's an LX 4cyl. Its actually had 2 belts next to each other that I'm looking to replace. I do not see a tensioner so do I just remove the Alternator pulley to replace or what? How do you change the serpentine belt on a 1998 Honda Accord?
I think on this car the Alternator tensions one of the belts and the Power steering pump tensions the other one. You do not remove the pulleys, you need to loosen(do not remove) like 2 or 3 bolts on the ps pump and then the pump should slide and the belt should come off. Same story with the alt...but im sure that only has two bolts....one of them is under the alt and you can reach it easier from underneath. Good luck! How do you change the serpentine belt on a 1998 Honda Accord?
That engine doesn't have tensioners instead it has brackets that are slotted. All you need to do is loosen (dont remove) the bolts. Probably a 12mm and move the alternator and or power steering pump. This will take the tension off the belt so you can remove it.How do you change the serpentine belt on a 1998 Honda Accord?

I am going to change my serpentine belt, is it a good idea to change the idler pulley with it?

How much will the labor cost me if i took it to a mechanic with the belt and idler pulley? 97 Honda civic. I am going to change my serpentine belt, is it a good idea to change the idler pulley with it?
you shouldn't have to change your idler pulley unless it is making noise or it is wobbling back and forth. to change the belt you need to loosen your tension pulley, it will probably slide toward the fire wall of the car. if the bolt loosens turn the other way. you do not want to take that pulley off unless you are ready to catch the tension spring. It is a easy job and I personally would not take it to a shop

I am going to change my serpentine belt, is it a good idea to change the idler pulley with it?
well sometimes it wouldnt hurt at all maybe another 10 bucks more for part but really id do it myself wouldnt be but like 30 bucks might cost you 100 at a shop and its really not that hard.. but if your not up for it best you just call three shops and ask.. belts prices and shop prices will vary across town... i just replace mine belt was like 14 bucks pully was like 12I am going to change my serpentine belt, is it a good idea to change the idler pulley with it?
The pulley only needs to be changed if the bearing or spring (if it is spring-loaded) is bad. I am going to change my serpentine belt, is it a good idea to change the idler pulley with it?
Unless the pulleys is going bad no need to change it. I would think that a shop would do this for what ever the minimium the charge is. i would change both for 25 bucks or the belt for 20. maybe just a 12 pack if the company was good a few beers.

How do you change the serpentine belt on a 97 kia sephia?

I threw the alternator belt on my 97 sephia and can't figure out how to loosen the other belt so that i can remove it and install the one that broke.

Also, is it possible that throwing this belt could possible throw the timing off?How do you change the serpentine belt on a 97 kia sephia?
Serpentine systems use a %26quot;Tensioner%26quot; that pushes against the belt to tighten it. In the center of the tensioner is a bolt- Put a socket on it and turn it counter clock wise. This will take the tension off the serpentine belt and allow you to take it off. It is reapplied just the opposite.

Timing has nothing to do with this belt. The timing is controlled by the timing belt which connects the crank to the cam(s).

How to change a Serpentine Belt (93 Olds Cutlass)?

I'm having a hell of a time trying to replace the serpentine belt on my 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera (6 Cylinder 3.3 liter).

Turns out my belt was worn out so my brother and I went to replace it. Problem is, we can't lift the tension pulley with a crowbar. We got so frustrated with the tension pulley that we just cut the old belt off. We were told the easiest way was to use a crowbar to lift the tension pulley and slide the belt on and off, that's worked on other cars in the family but not this one.

The tension pulley won't move an inch. We got the new belt on everything except the alternator and decided to pull up on the belt and (to our surprise) lifted the tension pulley just fine but now we can't use the crowbar to keep the pulley up long enough to slip the belt on the alternator.

We have to be doing something wrong and we don't want to lose any fingers with this flimsy system we're using now.

Any gear heads out there? Please help. How to change a Serpentine Belt (93 Olds Cutlass)?
You need what is called a Serpentine Belt Removal tool. Not a Crow Bar! These tools are usually free of charge with a deposit at your local auto parts store. They have the specific fittings and extensions that will work with your tension pulley that are necessary to move it without damaging you or your motor.

I've used them many times and in fact have purchased one for myself because of its ease of use. Once you have this tool you can pretty much change any serpentine belt in about 5 minutes. How to change a Serpentine Belt (93 Olds Cutlass)?
May be wrong...but if I remember right. The idler pulley is fixed. and the tension adjustment is done with an adjuster bolt on the alternator. But it could have actually been on the back of the idler pulley. Loosen the center nut on the pulley and turn the adjuster bolt to move it up or down.

It's been awhile. How to change a Serpentine Belt (93 Olds Cutlass)?
Your tensioner might have a small square hole in it somewhere. Insert either a 3/8%26quot; or 1/2%26quot; ratchet into that hole, whichever fits. The tensioner should move relatively easily.

As for how to reinstall the belt, I would find a different pulley than the alternator to be the last one to put the belt on. Reason being- the alternator has that extra little lip you have to pull the belt over. Usually the idler pulley is flat and is much easier to scoot that belt onto than the alternator. How to change a Serpentine Belt (93 Olds Cutlass)?
If you moved it up but cant keep it up with a crow bar get a ring spanner on to the bolt and use that to leaver it up.Its virtually the same as a commodore engine
